Shana, I'm not sure exactly what you have in mind, but some years ago
Fred Wilson as a guest curator created several wonderful exhibits called
"Mining the Museum"--he was particularly looking for "missing" items of
African-American history--for instance, if I recall correctly, his
"Mining" at the Maryland Historical Society included a pedestal with
nothing on it except a card labeled "Benjamin Banneker" (for the
remarkable African-American mathematician, clockmaker, surveyor [who had
helped survey for the city of Washington]--and who was not represented
with the appropriate bust in the Maryland collections at that time.)

Good morning!
I am looking for examples of exhibits of missing objects--ones that
are
designed to have missing objects rather than those that have objects
out on
loan.  They are surprisingly difficult to find in article searches or
google, so I thought it might be easier to just ask you for
suggestions.
Please let me know if you can think of any!
