VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

TITLE:   Historic Site Interpreter (Park Worker 1)

SALARY:  $9.40/hour        NEGOTIATING UNIT: CSEA

BENEFITS: Option to join state retirement system.
Option to apply for health benefits after 6 months continuous service of
20+ hours/week

JURIS CLASS:  Non-Competitive        NO. OF VACANCIES:  1

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: FT - Temporary & Seasonal – through October

WORK LOCATION:            Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site
                                       Albany, NY (Albany County)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Interpretive
Programs Assistant, the Historic Site Interpreter provides guided tours of
Schuyler Mansion to school, adult, & family groups; assists staff in
coordinating special events, conducting research, developing programs,
caring for collections, and with the general operations of the historic
site. Incumbents are expected to climb stairs as part of their regular tour
duties and complete written reports as needed. In addition, Historic Site
Interpreters may be assigned to provide off-site outreach programs within
the Capital District, assist with gardening and grounds work and perform
other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must have prior museum experience and
demonstrate excellent public presentation skills, an interest in local &
regional history, good verbal and writing skills, and have the ability to
climb stairs and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to work
well with the general public, manage multiple tasks, and serve as a team
player with co-workers. Knowledge and interest in conducting historical
research and flexibility in scheduling & work assignments is a plus. A B.A.
or coursework in history, museum studies, and/or art history is preferred.
A valid driver’s license is required. The successful applicant will be
required to submit references prior to employment.

SCHEDULE:  30-35 hours per week between Tuesday-Sunday.  Schedule will be
determined upon hire but may be subject to change due to budget, holidays,
or staffing needs. Weekends and occasional holidays/evenings are required.
