That is good advice from Bob Handy. The ideal would be to for the new hire to
 work along with the outgoing custodian for an entire year to "learn the
 ropes". At least arrange a 1 or 2 month overlap to cover the highest priority
 work such as security, heating system, etc.

Also take a critical look at the entire maintenance program at your facility.
 Record how the people, the building and outside suppiers relate. For more on
