Collections and Research | Assistant Registrar, Anthropology
Department: Anthropology
1 Full Time Term Position (35 hours/week for 6 months)
Job Description

The Anthropology Assistant Registrar will oversee all aspects of new
acquisitions, including budgeting, packing and shipping, legal paperwork and
collection documentation (both hard copy and digital).  This person will
work with Anthropology curators and collections managers to determine the
needs of each incoming collection.  This person will also supervise the new
acquisitions team of collections assistants that will be available to house
and transport collections for appropriate storage.  The Assistant Registrar
- New Acquisitions (NA) will help train staff, interns, and volunteers to
assist in various acquisition projects.

The Assistant Registrar will report to the Anthropology Department Registrar
and Head of Collections Management.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include:

    * Processing new acquisitions, including gifts, purchases and bequests.
    * Generate acquisition paperwork and update electronic files.
    * Complete initial incoming cataloging, photographic documentation, and
assignment of catalog numbers.
    * Maintain accession log, etc. as described on accession routing sheet.
    * Also responsible for presentations to Acquisitions Committee (agenda,
minutes, etc.)
    * Tasks include dealing with donors, arranging shipping, preparing
receipts, assigning catalog numbers, assessing objects including condition
and pest survey, unpacking, creating and updating object records in
database, preparing documentary photographs, preparing deeds of gift,
purchase orders, etc


Qualifications

    * Minimum of a B.A. or B.S. in Anthropology or related field with a
minimum of four years museum registration experience or an equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience.
    * Must have a significant understanding of and experience in museum
registration practices.
    * Experience with acquisitions, de-accessions, and standard registration
protocols is a necessity.
    * Must be organized, detail oriented, articulate, and self-motivated.
Must have ability to interact with staff members including, but not limited
to curators, collections managers, conservators, interns, and volunteers.
