It sounds much like the stuff marketed in the UK under the name "Sticky
Fixers" although these come in blocks not tape, bt they are 3M I think and i
have used them for the purpose you describe. I also find velcro tape which
art shops and good stationers here sell suitable, although the getting off
clean side is harder to do.
