I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good sources on the history of
museums. I've already gone through "Museums in Motion" and "Museums of
Influence."

As a side project, I've been working on a series of poems (very) loosely
based on often obscure moments in the history of museums. I figure that
museums have been around long enough that they can be considered objects of
material culture worthy of interpretation <grin>.

On a related note, I seem to remember reading once about some museum
researchers interviewing a boy about his impressions of his visit and he
responded by asking if all museums were required to have an elephant at the
entrance. Does anyone know what the source of that might be?
