Although it may be "hard to explain," the House on the Rock makes a guest
appearance in last year's Hugo winner, "American Gods," by Neil Gaiman,
featuring the carousel as a launching point to Valhalla (or something like
that). It's a pretty good description of the place, in all its very weird
glory.

And once you are there, you are near the Frank Lloyd Wright area of Spring
Green, Wisconsin, including Taliesin. And you are only an hour from us in
Baraboo.

The Milwaukee Public Museum is a classic and a must-see. So too is the
Milwaukee County Zoo.  Both of these were light-years ahead of their time;
the rest of the field spent decades catching up.

Oh, and House on the Rock. An absolute must. Their billboard says it
all: "So much to see; so hard to explain."
