There are several outstanding books for anyone who wants to learn about
the museum profession.

"Starting Right" by Cindy Sherrell-Leo is one of the best overall, easily
read, discussions on how to start a museum. This text gives valuable
information about the "proper" way of doing things, tempered by the truth
of reality. The information is presented in such a manner that even
the "seasoned professional" will find useful information. It is not
just for beginning museums, but for museums of all ages and sizes. It is
a wonderful guide to museology.

"A Legal Primer" by Marie Mallaro offers a thorough discussion of the
legal implications and responsibilities of the museum board, trustees,
director, curator, etc.. This should be required reading for any museum
professional.

The AASLH publishes many good books on the subject of museuology.
