This definition is *NOT* from a dictionary, but...
A "reproduction" or sometimes also referred to as "replica" is, I think, an
actual object made to appear as the original.  The most authentic of these
are actually made in the same manner using the same tool types, etc. as the
original.

A "photoduplication" is a copy of an original photograph - there are
numerous copyright issues associated with this...

And then there comes the photographs - I think in the context of your
question, the photography of the artifact is used to document the piece for
cataloging, registration or other purposes, and it is not considered a
"reproduction".

I'm sure others more knowledgeable on the list will correct me if I am
wrong...
