Dear colleagues,

I must admit, until four weeks ago I didn't spend much time thinking
about the registering, cataloguing and documenting of contemporary art.
Then my dear colleague Fernando Almarza Rísquez sent me the draft of his
upcoming article "Registering furniture and appliances: contemporary art
(video-sculptures, multimedia, installations)". I was thrilled. What an
interesting topic, what issues to think about, what problems to solve!
Hats off to you who have to deal with those issues on a daily basis!

It inspired me to grab my colleague Bernd Kießling and write a reply,
or, maybe better, a counterpoint to it. We took a simple ancient radio
and tried to explain what issues and pitfalls appear with the
registration of such technological objects. I think both articles
together make a pretty good harmony:

Registering furniture and appliances: contemporary art
(video-sculptures, multimedia, installations) by Fernando Almarza Rísquez:

Appliances, furniture and beyond – registering technological objects by
Angela Kipp and Bernd Kießling:

Enjoy, and have a wonderful upcoming weekend!
Angela
