Hello,
Do you think it would be possible to forward me any interesting answers you get yo your mail?
I am a PhD student working on this topic, more though in the museum environment.
Museums and the web 2003, 2004, 2005 have touched on this topic and the proceedings can be found on line. Check also the VAST204 conference reported on the life plus project that took place in Pompei.
You could also see the exploratorium guidebook in san francisco and the tate modern multimedia tour in tate modern, london.
France Telecom which finances my research is now developing an aspiring guide for Museon, in Hague, Netherlands.

The first prototype will be presented on June 30th. An older system presented last year in the museum of fine arts in lyon was experimental and part of a larger initiative of an interactive city guide, but the museum part was never really published.

Check as well the NESTA project called 'Learning on the Move' - link attached:http:

Subject: Hand-held interpretive devices and developers

Hello all,

Drayton Hall is interested in other institutions¹ experience with using hand-held technologies to give visitors access to interpretation outdoors.
We have heard about some systems that broadcast information to Palm-like devices and allow visitors to hear narration and view images, maps, and movie clips to interpret the landscape and the layers of history the site can offer. I have several questions for the group:

1. What museums and historic sites have used this technology effectively?

2. What hardware/software systems should we consider, and how do we contact the appropriate companies?

3. What developers are out there who have experience with the technology and could guide us in content development and delivery?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Wade
