I am replying to Elizabeth Morris' inquiry about Museum Education
programs. I am a student in the George Washington University's Museum
Education program.

I think working part time and volunteering in museums are great options,
but I also think you can't go wrong (most of the time) by pursuing a
graduate degree. My program combines coursework in educational theory
and teaching techniques with internships in schools and museums. If you
chose to work in a museum without going through a program like this, you
might miss out on the supervision, training, networking, and academic
opportunities that my program has given me. To find out more about the
GWU Museum Education program you can call the office at 202-994-6820. I
know that the Bank Street School (NYC) and the College of William and
Mary (Williamsburg, VA) also offer Museum Education programs. Feel free
to contact me of the list if you want more information.

Good luck!
