Preparator
Museum Registrar


POSITION SUMMARY:	The Preparator with the Chief Preparator oversees
all technical aspects of art handling with regard to storage, installation,
and packing of objects under the direction of the Registrar, Conservator,
and Curators.  He/she is the departmental point person in the maintenance
and upkeep of the Art Storage areas in coordination with the Registrar.
He/she assists the Chief Preparator with the maintenance of the Preparator's
Workshop, including supply inventory. The Preparator reports to the Chief
Preparator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.	With the Chief Preparator, the Preparator is responsible in all
technical aspects of museum standard art handling practices with regard to
storage, installation, and packing of objects under the direction of the
Registrar, Conservator, and Curators.

2.	Acts as a source of knowledge for proper museum standard art
handling practices.

3.	Departmental point person in the maintenance and upkeep of the Art
Storage areas.

4.	Ability to perform detailed work using reasoning and problem solving
skills, performing multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions.  

5.	Assists with maintaining the appearance of exhibition space
including dusting, cleaning of plexi, paint touch-up and sweeping; care and
cleaning of exhibit cases and plexi vitrines and various other miscellaneous
exhibition furniture.

6.	Assists in the maintenance of the Preparator's Studio, including
maintaining supply inventory. 

7.	On occasion, will provide supervision of contract preparators.

8.	Assists with preparation of exhibition furniture: fabrication,
construction, painting.

9.	Ability to lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds; ability to work
at heights over eight feet.

10.	Maintains and continually increases level of professional expertise
through professional training (workshops) and contact with others in the
field.

11.	Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Registrar.


QUALIFICATIONS:  BA/BFA Degree and 2 - 4 years museum work experience in the
technical aspects of museum standard art handling practices, storage,
installation and packing.
.	Must be responsible, maintain a professional demeanor, have the
ability to work as team member and also work independently on projects
.	Knowledge of basic carpentry skills
.	Computer literate
.	Good verbal and written communication skills
.	Ability to work unscheduled overtime during periods of
installation/de-installation
.	Ability to lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds
