MEDIA RELEASE

August 1998

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At the end of September, Gallery 44 will regretfully lose two
long-term staff members: Terry Costantino, Director and Alfonso Merlini,
Education Coordinator.

Over her ten years at Gallery 44, Terry has risen to numerous
challenges including deficit fighting, the move to 401 Richmond and the
search for alternative sources of funding. She has tackled each challenge
with humour, stamina, and a personal touch-qualities that have been much
appreciated by the other staff members as well as the members of Gallery
44.

Terry recently graduated with a Masters in Information Studies from
the University of Toronto and decided to put her new skills to work while
they are still current. She has accepted a contract with Bell Canada as
their Internet Content Manager in Corporate Communications.

The excellent environment for photographic art in California, not
to mention the need to surf, has Alfonso heading south in October 1998.
Having received his Masters in Art with a concentration in photography from
the San Francisco Art Institute, Alfonso plans to pursue his vocation as an
art teacher.

During his four years at Gallery 44, the members and staff have
come to rely on Alfonso's many talents. A key player in the development of
the production facilities, and a friendly face to greet new members,
visitors to the gallery, and student groups, Alfonso's easy manner will be
greatly missed at Gallery 44 and by the many friends he's made here.

The Board and Membership of Gallery 44 wish our colleagues all the
best in their future endeavours. We are also pleased to confirm that Scott
McLeod, Exhibition Coordinator and Lisa Deanne Smith, Development
Coordinator, will continue in their current positions.

Gallery 44 is conducting a national search for candidates for the
positions of Director and Education Coordinator. The Calls for
Applications for both positions are attached. Your assistance in
"spreading the word" would be most appreciated especially since summer is a
particularly difficult time to call for applications. Interested
candidates can request copies of the Calls for Applications-by email, fax,
or mail-by calling Gallery 44 at (416) 979-3941.
