We have open storage on the first floor of the anthro museum here at Beloit
College. The Logan Museum of Anthropology reopened in the spring of '95
with an entirely new focus, which included exhibiting a larger amount of
objects and changing from diorama-focused exhibits to those with a
(re)focusing on the object and the textual information. I think this works
in this instance because we are a museum connected to a college, with a
great emphasis on research. I know that some people really enjoy this
opportunity to see so much more of the collection at one time, but also that
some visitors don't feel like the open storage gives the opportunity for
enough text information or the ability to put the objects in their proper
context. Overall, though, the reaction has been favorable.

If you plan on coming to the midwest anytime soon, Beloit College is located
right on the Wisconsin/Illinois border, about an hour NW of Chicago. I hope
this helps.
