With all due respect to the service performed to the museum community by
museum-l, I find the notion of "sub-lists" to be more than moderately
presumtuous. The lists mentioned above were not formed due either to any
mandate from museum-l or with any intention of competing with it. (Indeed,
I'm pretty sure that ConsDist predates museum-l by a substantial margin.)

It is the nature of the Internet that any perceived need for a
distribution list is very likely to be met by someone starting the desired
list. To be sure, given the glut of material sloshing around already, the
creation of redundant lists can be seen as unfortunate. The disciplinary
interests within the museum community are, however, large enough in number
for the notion of the distribution list equivalent of one-stop-shopping to
be highly unrealistic.

I would have thought that the general tenor of recent discussion on
museum-l amply demonstrates that point.
