John A. Segreto was shot to death by police sharpshooters on Friday
Jan 19 In Houghton Michigan after a  17-hour standoff in which he allegedly
robbed our local bank, shot one teller, took two hostages, and then
allegedly attached an explosive device to one hostage, with whom he
attempted to flee the scene in the other hostage's car. The police disabled
the car and then carried on a discussion over the evening and all night to
negotiate her release.  This failed.  Extenuating circumstances:  a
40-below wind chill, the worst blizzard in a number of years, the victim of
the shooting is the relative of two members of the local police force. You
