Subject: TRAVELLING EXHIBITION ON ARCHAEOLOGY OF JERUSALEM

The Israel Antiqutities Authority in Jerusalem has assembled a travelling
exhibition entitled AKELDEMA-FROM THE DIASPORA TO JERUSALEM: NEWLY
DISCOVERED FAMILY TOMBS IN THE KIDRON VALLEY. The three tombs were used
from the first century BCE to the 5-6 century CE. They were richly
decorated and contained pottery, jewelry, glass and 39 Jewish ossuaries
with Greek and Hebrew inscriptions of the first century. During later
centuries the tombs were used by Christian families in Jerusalem and
contained burial objects of a Christian nature. Thirty one of these
objects along with photographs were selected for a travelling exhibition
in the US which is currently on display at the Detroit Jewish community
Center in Detroit, Michigan. Museums, cultural centers and other
suitable venues interested in presenting this interesting and informative
travelling exhibition should contact Hava Katz, Acting Chief Curator in
the Israel Antiquities Authority for further information.
