I believe that what you are referring to may be the guidelines AAM produced in 2000 about the exhibition of borrowed objects.  This included but by no means was limited to borrowing objects from trustees. The guidelines can be found on the AAM website (www.aam-us.org)  The easiest way to locate the guidelines on the site is to enter "borrowed objects" in the search field.  There are several other useful ethics policies in this section, but I don't recall anything specifically relating to borrowing items from the collection.

Subject: Trustee guidelines

Is anyone familiar with any documents put out by AAM about guidelines for trustees?  I'm looking for one that a colleague of mine *vaguely* remembers as having such information as why trustees should not borrow items from their museum's collection for personal use, etc.  Many thanks in advance!
