I have kept my silence during the last number of postings 'cause one can add
little light to emotional responses. One can, however, accept such outbursts
as part of the need of people to express themselves. In certain instances I
have responded off-line, in others I intend to respond, while still others
do not deserve a response. Personal attacks are always unfortunate, but
apparently inevitable.

I do, however, believe that those folks who take it upon themselves to
attempt to control serious subject matter that is being discussed
(interestingly enough no one objected to the breast feeding topic 'till it
was milked dry) only show their own fear of conflict and desire for control.

To term a discussion as "acting out" is truly a frightening degree of need
to control. The only major culture that surpasses that level of oppression
was the Byzantine culture that equated thought of an act with the act
itself.

The arrogance and abnegation of personal responsibility by those who demand
that folks ought not to discuss something because "some people don't want to
hear it..." is truly remarkable. We all have a delete key. All that is
required is to overcome curiosity and to forgo the thrill of "just"
indignation on reading something that one disagrees with.

Least productive are directives. Suggestions regarding alternative avenues
for expression would always be welcomed when made with obvious
loving-kindness but not impatience and irritation.

So it goes.

Instead of continuing to act out on this issue because some people don't
want to hear it, why don't those of you who must continue, email each other
privately. Or, better yet, send your thoughts to your representatives,
senators, governors, and the Bush administration. If you want a forum, those
are the people you need to be addressing, not this "captive" audience.
