NEDCC AWARDED GRANTS FROM NEH FOR CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS IN 1998-99

The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) in Andover,
Massachusetts announces that it has been awarded two grants totaling
$611,200 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Division of
Preservation and Access. One grant supports humanities programs provided
by NEDCC s field service office including workshops, preservation planning
surveys, distribution of printed information, and disaster planning and
assistance. This grant must be matched in part from nonfederal sources.

The second grant supports a national program of conferences and workshops
on digitization and its relationship to preservation. The proliferation of
scanning projects at collections-holding institutions make this a topic of
urgent interest to librarians and archivists. The program includes a
series of large conferences entitled School for Scanning: Issues of
Preservation and Access for Paper-Based Collections and a second series of
small hands-on workshops entitled To Film or to Scan.

IT IS TIME TO MARK YOUR CALENDAR! The following NEH funded conferences and
workshops have been scheduled. Fliers, registration materials, faculty,
and agendas are NOT currently available. Watch NEDCC s web site at
<www.nedcc.org> or this bulletin board for more information. If you want
your name added to the mailing lists for fliers for any of these events
contact Gay Tracy at <[log in to unmask]>.
