The Museum Studies Program at San Francisco State University would like to
inform all museum colleagues that the following course will be offered in
July 2000:

Museum Studies 810: "Information Technology and Museums"

This course is an immersive 3-week workshop focusing on how information
technology is used in museums, including digital imaging, web sites, and
databases as they relate to education, collections management, and
administration. Participants in the course will create an on-line
exhibit/database and in the process learn about asset acquisition (week
1), creating and posting a web site (week 2), and turning it into a
searchable database (week 3). Software will include Photoshop (for
controlling scanners and image editing/formatting), Dreamweaver (web site
creation and posting files), and Filemaker Pro (database engine). The
course will take place in a Macintosh lab (G4/256mbRam/Zip).

Museum employees are welcome to take the course for 3 units of
graduate-level credit through the College of Extended Learning
(registration information below). This course also counts towards the
Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies for SFSU students. Enrollment is
limited to 24 registered persons, and cannot accommodate auditors, since
each participant will have her/his own computer station.
