Dear Lisa

We have 2 systems in our water-sensitive collection stores. The first
protection that will be triggered in the event of a fire is the inergent
gas system (equivalent of the dry pipe system i believe?). Above 60 degrees
celsius or so would the water sprinkler system be triggered as an added
layer of protection. I am not sure if this is the best appraoch really.

There has been some controversy (even in our org) on why we even need a
water sprinkler sys as a second layer protection when the inert gas system
should by right suffice. for your info, it is not until recently that they
revise the statutory requirement that all buildings should have water
sprinklers.

I supposed nothing can be conclusive. Just to answer your question, people
have to evacuate the room immediately when the inergent gas alarm sound and
close the door behind them to contain the gas. Thus the sys is only
suitable for installation in 'enclosable' space for it to work and for
human safety.

I know this subject has been up many times before but I would like an
assessment as to what is the preferred system.  My understanding from
previous discussions is that dry-pipe systems are preferred?  Our board
members are insisting there must be a good gas fire suppression system, but
I am not familiar with any that are OK for use with people in the room.

What is the general consensus?  I printed the technical leaflet from the
NDCC which is very helpful, but would appreciate any personal experiences.
