Position Announcement
Curator of Collections

The High Point Museum collects, preserves and interprets the history of
greater High Point to encourage a sense of heritage, place and community for
the enrichment of the public. The Curator of Collections performs
professional work in administering museum collections. Supervises a
Collections Technician/Assistant Registrar, volunteers and interns to
develop and implement collections policies and procedures and computerized
record keeping.  Works as an exhibit team member assisting in research,
design, and preparation of temporary exhibits.

Specific responsibilities include planning and development of related
policies and procedures; overseeing storage, condition assessment and
cataloguing of collections and records; documenting movement and inventory
of collections; monitoring the environment of storage areas, historic
structures, and coordinates conservation treatment projects; creates and
maintains loan and gift forms, loan agreements, contracts, and insurance
documents; assists with collections management and relevant legal standards;
responds to inquiries regarding the collections and maintains effective
systems for intellectual access to and use of collections; and develops and
writes grant proposals. Creates and manages the annual collections budget;
creates and prepares condition reports for exhibits, supervises shipping,
monitors packing, unpacking and object handling during installation and
takedown.

M.A. in museum studies with a collections management focus and two to three
years supervisory responsibility as Registrar or Assistant Collections
Manager. Excellent written and verbal communications and supervisory skills;
effective budget and scheduling management experience and thorough knowledge
of collections management, registration and conservation standards
essential.
Must be a team player.  Valid appropriate driver's license with acceptable
driving history.

Salary commensurate with experience.  Benefit package will be included.
