At present South Africa has 12 science & technology centres, the only ones in Africa.

The South African Association of Science & Technology Centres (SAASTEC) was established recently to promote sorely needed science & technology education through interactive science centres.

Of the 12 centres in the country, KwaZuzulwazi ("place of enriching knowledge" - the science centre at the Durban Natural Science Museum) is the busiest at present, with 61 500 visitors recorded in 1995. The Museum itself has been the most popular in the country for 2 years running, with 353 000 visitors last year.

If anyone would like to receive the SAASTEC newsletter or the Museum's scientific journal in exchange for one of their Museum publications, please feel free to contact me.
