     Preservation Technician Northeast Document Conservation Center

     Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site

     The Northeast Document Conservation Center, in cooperation with the
     National Park Service, is seeking a technician to inventory, treat,
     and house a large and complex collection of architectural drawings,
     plans, and related materials. This is a one-year position, subject to
     renewal. The technician will be an employee of the Northeast Document
     Conservation Center working through a cooperative agreement with the
     Olmsted National Historic Site. The position is located at the Olmsted
     Archives Conservation Lab in Springfield, Massachusetts. The duties of
     the Preservation Technician are as follows: Under direction of the
     Supervisory Archivist, the Preservation Technician carries out basic
     paper conservation treatments on the above mentioned archival
     materials. The goal of this work is to preserve the materials and to
     facilitate collections management and research use. All conservation
     is done according to the accepted standards of practice in the
     archives and conservation fields. The Preservation Technician engages
     in rehousing and storing of the collection and in producing associated
     documentation. The Preservation Technician assists the Supervisory
     Archivist with the day to day management of the preservation
     laboratories to facilitate safe and efficient work. The Preservation
     Technician produces inventories documenting pertinent information
     relating to each architectural plan. This is an entry-level position,
     with a starting salary of approximately 24,000 per annum and full
     benefits including health insurance. Preference will be given to
     applicants with some experience in treatment and handling of archival
     collections. The position is suitable for persons seeking conservation
     experience prior to entering a graduate conservation program. Review
