The San Diego Natural History Museum is sponsoring a one day
workshop/seminar on issues affecting California's declining  reptile and
amphibian populations.  The program is scheduled for 14 March, 1997 from
8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.  The program will be followed by a reception for our
speakers in the Museum's main hall which is presently featuring the exhibit
"Elephants, 40 Million Years of Evolution".

We are proud to announce a program that includes a rich array of leading
biologists who are administering to the conservation of or studying species
decline in the state.  Our featured speakers include:

        John Brode (California Department of Fish & Game)
        Marc Hayes (Portland Community College, Co-author "Amphibian and
                Reptile Species of Special Concern in California")
        Dan Holland (Camp Pendleton Reptile & Amphibian Survey)
        Sarah Kupferberg (University of California Berkeley)
        Eric Lichtwardt (Lichtwart Biological, Bozeman, Montana)
        James Rorabaugh (U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Region 2)
        Samuel Sweet (University of California Santa Barbara)

Focus species include southwestern pond turtle, arroyo southwestern toad,
red-legged and yellow-legged frog, and flat-tailed horned lizard.
Presentations will address natural histories, declines and ecological
factors relevant to the conservation of these species.  Special
presentations will focus on governmental efforts aimed at managing and
preserving those species of greatest concern.

Cost of the program is $50.00.  Students with current student ID may
register for $25.00.  Lunch will be provided at an additional cost of
