Curator II, collections department, Nebraska State Historical Society

Duties will include collecting, authenticating, preserving, maintaining,
exhibiting and researching collections of historic artifacts related to
Nebraska's past.  Administering museum collections department (staff of
three, plus volunteers, graduate interns, work-study) including planning,
organizing, assigning and evaluating work of subordinate staff to attain
department goals.  Reviewing potential collections acquisitions, obtaining
title to appropriate artifacts, organizing and researching new collections.
Conducting or supervising the cataloging, cleaning and storing of artifacts
to maximize preservation and accessibility and the entry, storage and
retrieval of artifact computer records.  Planning and researching
exhibitions and retrieving and preparing artifacts for display.  Researching
and providing information about museum collections and artifacts, including
response to patron queries and public presentations to interested groups.
Providing training and assistance to local historical organizations and
other groups on appropriate museum collections management techniques.

Requirements: Bachelors degree in American history, American studies, museum
studies or related field with a minimum of three years of progressively
responsible relevant curatorial/administrative experience required.   Prefer
Masters degree and five years relevant experience .  Demonstrated ability to
speak publicly to and write for a variety of audiences,  Proven ability to
manage multiple tasks and staff while meeting deadlines; Knowledge of
electronic collections management issues and processes;identification and
assessment of historic artifacts; preservation and storage techniques; and
historical research techniques and resources, particularly as they relate to
Nebraska history.  Expertise in mid-19th-20th century material culture and
ethnographic materials, Multi-Mimsy collections management software a plus.

Salary is $2,494 - $2,619 per month
