Hi All,

The Museum of Vision is now hiring for a new position: Curator of Academy
Archive (see job description below). If you are interested, please respond

The mission of the Museum of Vision is to educate people about the eye,
vision and the history of ophthalmology.  Our collection can be categorized
into two areas, artifacts and  archives.  The Curator of Academy Archive
would be responsible for the archives including personal papers,
photographs, films and ephemera.  The Museum of Vision is an educational
program of EyeCare America, a public service foundation of the American
Academy of Ophthalmology located in San Francisco, CA.


Job Description

Job Title:              Curator of Archive Collection

Reports to:             Director, Museum of Vision



Job Summary:
The Curator of Archive Collection works under the supervision of the Museum
Director to manage the Academy Archive Collection including preservation,
storage, database management, dissemination of educational materials, and
answering research/reference requests, as well as working with and staffing
a committee of Academy members to make acquisition and disposal decisions.
In addition, the Curator of Archive Collection is responsible for performing
research on the Academy Archive collection, producing exhibits, creating
educational materials, writing web content, and working with a governing
committee to determine areas of research.

Responsibilities:
·       Produce exhibitions and educational materials
·       Perform research on the collection.
·       The preservation and care of the Museum’s Academy Archive collection.
·       Increasing the educational outreach of the Museum of Vision by answering
inquiries and heavy interaction with the committees and other volunteers.
·       Participate in the association’s annual conference by helping to set up
the Museum’s booth, answer questions, hand out literature, and staff the
exhibit area.

Education and Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree
Masters in Museum Studies, Library Services or related field


Skills and Aptitudes:
Detail oriented, excellent written and oral skills, history writing,
planning and executing strategies to build and manage the collection.
Experience in curation of exhibits, preservation of collections (papers,
photographs, films, etc.)
Experience in historical research.
Experience dealing with legal issues related to collections.
Project management, word processing and database management.
Ability to arrange objects/organize space, photography, working with
volunteers and staffing committees.
Physical ability to lift and move objects.
