Assistant Professor of Museum Studies

THE PROGRAM:  
In 1974, San Francisco State University was the first educational
institution in the San Francisco Bay area to offer museology courses and in
1987, officially inaugurated its Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies.
Interdisciplinary in scope and hands-on in approach, the Museum Studies
Program builds upon the relevant academic foundation of a student's 
previous undergraduate or graduate degree. The program curriculum offers
professional instruction in history and organization of museums, museum
exhibition design and curation, collections management and registration,
museum management, and conservation and authentication procedures.

THE POSITION:  
The Museum Studies Program seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at
the Assistant Professor Level, effective Fall 2002.  We are seeking
candidates with expertise in museum management and/or development which may
include: board governance; museum administration; individual, foundation,
corporate giving; public relations/marketing; earned income operations;
visitor studies; teaching/training experience.

DUTIES:  
Teaching at the graduate level 2 courses currently offered in MS program
plus courses in the candidate's area(s) of specialization, assisting the
Director in thesis and internship advising, research, and curriculum
development.

QUALIFICATIONS:  
Candidates should have 5 years experience in museum management and/or
development, an appropriate terminal postgraduate degree (MA, MBA, PhD), and
teaching/training experience.

SALARY RANGE:  $41,940 to $47,088 plus excellent state benefits.
