ASSISTANT CONSERVATOR

ASSISTANT FOR PROGRAMMING

The Assistant for Programming will work closely with the General Manager of Concerts and lectures in the forward planning of the Museum's subscription program.  The Assistant for Programming supports and assists the General Manager in programming concerts and lectures.  The Assistant for Programming will collect ideas for future events creating and maintaining files of suggestions and ideas, pertinent articles and reviews, and carry out additional research projects as directed, receive and track telephone and mail suggestions for the series.  The Assistant for Programming will prepare and track the General Manager's communications, generating and typing contracts as directed by the General Manager.  The Assistant for Programming will obtain programs, type and edit for inclusion in brochure, and oversee typesetting.  The Assistant for Programming will assist the General Manager in projects that impact the department as a whole, communications with the press representative and designer.  The Assistant for Programming will audit both Museum and non-Museum events upon request.  The ideal candidate must have the ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines under pressure with accuracy.  The ideal candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.  The ideal candidate must have excellent computer skills, using Word, Excel and Outlook.  The ideal candidate must have the ability to organize diverse assignments and to work cooperatively with others.  Experience in the performing arts contractual process is preferred.  A Bachelor of Arts degree and a familiarity with the history of classical music and the history of art are required.  An in-depth and wide-ranging knowledge of classical music, composers, styles and periods is preferred. GARDENER


The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks Gardener for The Cloisters.  The Gardener will be working under the general supervision of the Horticulture to discuss objectives, priorities, schedules, resources available and expected results and will be working with other gardeners to maintain and cultivate three enclosed gardens, grounds, and propagation area and on the job training to acquire knowledge about medieval gardens of The Cloisters in order to interpret gardens to others.  The Gardener will mow, cultivate, plant, propagate, prune, water, weed, sweep, pot washing, lift heavy pots and climb ladders.  The Gardener will work on the Museum's outside grounds with Monday contractual crew on special individual assignments.  The Gardener will perform weekly grounds inspections with Horticulturists.  The Gardener will work on preparing seasonal interior displays that include flower arranging, and installing and maintain holiday displays.  The Gardener will work on behind-the-scene projects that include keeping plant records.  The ideal candidate must have general knowledge in all aspects of practical horticulture.  The ability to use garden tools and power equipment is required.  Must be physically fit and able to life moderately heavy objects and climb ladders.  Must be dedicated and hard working and able to tolerate exposure to seasonal weather conditions.  Must have a driver's license with a good standing driving record.  Must be self-motivated and enthusiastic, and willing to work as part of a team.  Must have good communication skills as well as computer skills in MS Word and internet.  Must have the ability to interact with Museum visitors and staff and be sensitive to all aspects of working in a museum environment.  Must be well rounded, and committed to achieving high horticultural standards.  Must have the ability to prepare detailed seasonal exhibits.
