 The following books were mentioned in responses to my plea for source
recommendations on "how to do" oral history interviews.  These should all be
in print.  Thanks to all who responded promptly and concisely.
 
 
Edward (Sandy) Ives' THE TAPE-RECORDED INVTERVIEW:
A MANUAL FOR FIELDWORKERS IN FOLKLORE AND ORAL HISTORY (U. Tenn. Pr., 1980).
(received the most recommendations)
 
Henson, McMurray, and Clawson,*Oral History Project Procedures Manual,*
published 1982 and revised 1988. Pamela Henson, lead author, can be reached

Thompson, Paul.  THE VOICE OF THE PAST:  ORAL HISTORY.  NY:  Oxford University
        Press, 1988.
 
Baum, Willa K., ORAL HISTORY FOR THE LOCAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY.  Am. Assn. for

The Association for State & Local History has produced a number of
publications on the topic.
 
Bruce jackson, _Fieldwork_ (U of Illinois Press, ca. 1989)
 
William Fletcher, _Recording your family history_ (1989) [revised edition
of _Talking your roots_]  Ten Speed Press.
 
The Oral history Association publishes a journal (Oral History Review)
which frequently has good articles on how to do oral history.
