What he said. (We don't know each other, but Dave Harvey's reputation is
pretty well known to those of us in the Firearm Museum biz.)

A couple things to add - check out the following from the Minnesota
Historical Society:

Tech Talk/September 1998/Vol. XXVI, No. 9
(http://www.mnhs.org/about/publications/techtalk/TechTalkSeptember1998.pdf)
Conservation treatment of firearms, part I, by Paul Storch, MHS objects
conservator.

Tech Talk/December 1998/Vol. XXVI, No. 12
(http://www.mnhs.org/about/publications/techtalk/TechTalkDecember1998.pdf)
Conservation treatment of firearms, part II, by Paul Storch, MHS objects
conservator.

We are actually working on a couple of documents regarding this issue, but
they are still works in progress.

When in doubt, you can give us a holler and we can try to give you some
suggestions.
