Hi Shyra:
I always find it best to go to the experts, which in this case would be a
vendor. I have worked with Ansul developing some graphics on the use of foam
for an exhibit and they were very helpful. I would suggest contacting them,
as I would think that adobe and foam would be a unique situation:

Hope this helps,

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Fire Prevention Plan

We are working with our local fire department in developing a fire
prevention plan. They have suggested the use of firefighting foams to
suppress a potential fire. I'm not at all familiar with the relatively new
foam technology used in firefighting. I've heard that there are different
application methods (rain down vs. roll on) and different classes of foam,
but always thought foam was used mostly in cases of fuel fires. We are
dealing with an historic adobe structure with interior and exterior lime
plaster coating. Considering the destructive effects of moisture on adobe, I
wonder about the use of foam to combat fire. What is the benefit over other
methods? Any major threats to consider? Does anyone have knowledge to share
or recommended reading on this topic?

I appreciate any and all info! Many thanks in advance!
