A consortium of museums in Mobile, Alabama approached the airport authority
to include displays from the various sites and museums in the area. The
museum had two cases built (according to our specifications). Museums were
free to contribute real or reproduction items to the display. Those who
failed to meet the deadline were not represented.

This serves the airport, the community and the museums.

As the local history museum, the Museum of Mobile, we allowed a quilt in our
collection depicting important sites in the area to be hung in the airport.
While this was part of our collection, the quilters guild that made the item
wanted it to be shown and displayed. As it was a contemporary piece, I
agreed that it should be publicly displayed (with proper conservation
measures). It hung at the front of the airport for about a year and a half,
and again introduced visitors to special sites in the area.

Hope this helps -- don't be afraid to open a dialog with the airport
authorities.
