In addition to the present (1994) _Code of Ethics for Museums_, AAM
previously published _Museum Ethics_ (1978) with much more detail on
aspects of staff work--I do not remember if this included a lot more
detail on the specific matter of "gifts to curators," but I suspect it
did. AAM also put together a collection of articles from _Museum News_,
1980-1987, on the subject, "Professional Codes of Ethics," and AAM's
Technical Information Service has published _Writing a Museum Code of
Ethics_ (1992)--I wouldn't be surprised if this latter might be in the
process of being rewritten, following the 1994 _Code of Ethics for
Museums_. AAM also published in 1985 _A Code of Ethics for
Registrars_--and again, I don't recall if that included specifics on
gifts to curators. The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has also
published _ICOM Statutes; ICOM Code of Professional Ethics_ (1990).
Finally, if I recall correctly, AAM's earliest publication on museum
ethics (1925) was called _Code of Ethics for Museum Workers_--but I
suspect all would agree that this was superseded by the 1978 publication
referred to above.
