OPENING OF "MASKS & PADDLES: A JERRY LAKTONEN EXHIBIT"



    The Alutiiq Museum will open the exhibit Masks & Paddles: A Jerry
Laktonen exhibit on Tuesday, September 19th.  The display will include
four recently created masks and three newly styled paddles by the well
known artist.  Archaeological and historic pieces from museums around
the world have provided Mr. Laktonen's inspiration.

    Laktonen, who began carving just ten years ago, owns his own studio-
Whale Dreams- and has shown and sold his work nationally.  The exhibit
will remain at the Alutiiq Museum through Saturday, October 14th.

    The museum is located at 215 Mission Road, Suite 101 in Kodiak,
Alaska..Telephone: (907) 486-7004, Fax (907) 486-7048, Website:
www.alutiiqmuseum.com. Current hours of operation Tue.-Fri., 9-5 & Sat
10:30-4:30.  The Alutiiq Museum is a non-profit organization governed by
representatives of Kodiak's Alutiiq Corporations, with funding from
