You may want to contact Katherine Ott, the Curator of the Division of Medicine and Society at the National Museum of American History. I saw her speak at the 2008 Smithsonian Affiliations National Conference. Her presentation was titled Exhibiting the History of Disability and was part of the Where's My Story? Incorporating Multiple Perspectives in Interpretation session.
