Absolutely right, Greg.  And get ready for more of it this election year.
Its become the modus operandi of the right-wing in an election year to
select controversial art -- particularly having to do with the American
flag and homosexuality -- and squeeze as much political mileage out of it
as possible.  I've watched this happen over the past several years and each
time I wince at the art world's willingness to fight the verbal battle on
their own territory. We're such suckers.  After the election is over you
could stuff a flag up your ass and parade through the Corcoran, and these
guys wouldn't give a damn.  Museum professionals ought to stop talking
about art in response to right-wing  attacks and instead identify them for
what they are:  below-the-belt political cheap shots that have nothing to
do with art and everything to do with creating a mob of emotionally charged
voters.
