With apologies for the short notice (I only just received an announcement myself), I wanted to let list members and their colleagues know about
an upcoming workshop, "Diocesan Museums: Preserving Our Cultural Heritage for the Community," which is being held at the Jubilee Museum at
Holy Family, 57 South Grubb Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215, August 23-25, 2002.. This will be the first such national workshop on diocesan and
religious order museums in the United States. According to the announcement,

"Preserving the history of our Catholic faith in America plays an important role in the life of the Church. Discover ways to begin a museum of our
Catholic heritage and culture in your local diocese. Explore why it is beneficial to preserve our Church treasures for ourselves and for future
generations. Join our guest speakers and museum staff for this exciting and informative seminar."

A keynote address will be given by Archbishop Francesco Marchisano, president of the Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the
Church, on "Art: Witness to History and Faith." He will also make presentations on "The Importance of a Diocesan Museum" and on "A
Museum: The Church Speaks to Its Future." His assistant, Dr. Christina Carlo-Stella, will speak on "The Catholic Mind and Memory." Other
sessions will focus on founding a diocesan museum, and on the display, care and inventory of artifacts.

The cost of the seminar is $75, or $90 for registration and meals (catered lunch and dinner), if registrations are postmarked and/or received by
August 1; after that date, the rates are $80 for registration and $100 for registration and meals. A discounted registration rate is available for
members of religious orders. The conference organizers have also reserved a block of rooms at a nearby Hampton Inn (1-800-426-7866; $79
single, $89 double; use registration code FHS); the Jubilee Museum will provide shuttle service to and from the hotel. Discounted car rental is
available through Budget Car Rental at Port Columbus International Airport (the museum can arrange reservations for you).

For more information, please contact Linda Hamilton, Jubilee Museum director, at 614-461-6204, or via e-mail at
