Hello Museum-L folk, I'm working on a project that involves our art museum's first experiment with an audio tour in the permanent collection, and I'd love to hear suggestions or experiences from other institutions.

The audio will be confined to one floor of the museum. We want to use hand-held units (vs. installed speakers) that allow random access (no prescribed sequence), and we'd like it to require minimal staffing (if self-serve proves impossible).

In our audio tours for temporary exhibitions, we have worked with Acoustiguide and Antenna, so that's where I'm looking first. Has anyone had an excellent or unsatisfactory experience with either of these for permanent collection projects, or is there another company you'd recommend?

If you've been involved with a similar project, please let me know if you'd be willing to discuss it over the phone--I'd love to ask about optimal number of stops per gallery, considerations in object selection, approaches to content, pitfalls to avoid, etc.!

Thanks,
Lisa Steffen
