Description
This groundbreaking exhibition from the National AIDS Exhibit Consortium
presents current medical research on HIV and AIDS within the context of
clear and accessible public health messages.

Exhibition panels are grouped to create private areas for viewing sensitive
material on prevention including a bilingual (English and Spanish)
interactive videodisc in which Edward James Olmos talks with teenagers
about AIDS. An outer area for younger children focuses on what behavior in
safe, and what's risky. Profiles of people with HIV and AIDS appear
throughout the exhibition, as well as a frieze of faces of others who are
HIV positive.

The detective work that led to our understanding of AIDS in the 1980's, and
the current search for a cure, are explored through an interactive computer
program, audio interviews with researchers, and several simple hands-on
devices. In an area about immunology, visitors can look at white blood
cells through a microscope. A resource area includes a telephone from
which visitors can dial the CDC HIV/AIDS information national hotline, as
well as materials for responding to what they've seen in the exhibition.
