I am interested in finding out some imformation on the making
of Federal period spectacles in Virginia or elsewhere in the
States. I know that Thomas Jefferson ordered his eye glasses
from Philadelphia, but I am curious to know if the lens glass
was made in America or did it have to come from England or
Europe? If spectacle lens glass was made in America, where was
it being produced?

I realize that this is an esoteric topic, but it is the kind
that I seem to get asked by my staff!

Thanks in advance.
