Hello Sandra,

While I haven't come across non-adhesive labels, I'm sure some option must exist. You may want to contact your barcode printer manufacturer as they may be able to supply an option.

I wouldn’t entirely rule out adhesive labels. You wouldn't place them directly on the artefact but placing them on a card or tag and attaching that to the artefact would not only solve your problem but would give a nice flat surface for scanning the barcode as well as making the barcode a bit more sturdy. Now this totally depends on your needs and the unique needs of your collection but worth thinking about.

	Good luck!

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Non-adhesive Artifact Barcode labels

Hello, all-knowing list!

We at the National Museum of Mongolia are initiating a collections barcoding project. There's some difficulty in sourcing a non-adhesive, chemically stable thermal transfer label for hanging/tying around artifacts. Polyester, Tyvek, polypropylene are all suitable. The challenging piece is finding a non-adhesive type. Roll form is preferred, but sheet may also be an option. If you know of such a label, we would appreciate hearing from you about the vendor and product info.

If you use non-adhesive, chemically stable or acid free barcode tags of a different type with your collection, please let us hear that as well!

Thanks in advance and happy Thanksgiving.

Kind regards,

Sandra
