Hi, Dave --

I know you're looking for real examples and the Milwaukee Public Museum
had a very popular program called Halloween Hauntings. Perhaps they still do it and Dawn or another MPM'er who follows Museum-L can comment.

People occasionally spoke of former MPM anthropologist and director, Samuel Barrett, as haunting the museum. Whenever bad things happened we'd joke about Sam's spirit being riled up. But, as the staff who worked with people who'd worked with Barrett (he retired in 1939) left the museum, the Sam references faded away.

Fictional accounts are easier. If you haven't read it, you may enjoy the 7th book in the Dresden File series, Dead Beat by Jim Butcher. The hero, Harry Dresden, investigates the murder of a visiting curator at the Field Museum in Chicago, fights off a necromancer there and is aided by T. rex, Sue, in the novel's terrific climax.

Harry is a terrific noir hero, a blend of Harry Potter and Jim Rockford, and the books keep getting better as the series progresses. I haven't seen the tv series from the Sci-Fi channel which was based on the characters and basic premises but didn't follow the books that closely. Perhaps someone who has seen the show could tell us if any of the episodes used museums in the Chicago area.
