CONSERVATION OFFICER - PREVENTATIVE
Position 50000609
AWM Broadband 3 (APS Levels 2-5), A$30,642 - $42,524
National Collection Branch, Collection Services Section,
Fixed term contract until 30 June 2002

The Australian War Memorial requires a Preventive Conservation Officer to
provide for the ongoing monitoring and
maintenance of the environment for the National Collection. The occupant
will have a tertiary qualification in the
conservation of cultural heritage (or equivalent) with particular skills in
 the range of preventive conservation
strategies including disaster planning, environmental monitoring and
integrated pest management. The work
involves assisting in risk management and contingency planning;
implementing preventive strategies; providing for
collection maintenance; monitoring of environmental conditions in all
collections areas; and assisting in the
training of others in preventive conservation. The Preventive Conservation
Officer would report directly to the Paper
Conservator and is responsible for the supervision of the Conservation
Cleaner.

CONSERVATION OFFICER - CHEMIST

The Conservation Chemist manages a small Laboratory which provides
scientific analysis and scientific advice
and assistance to the Memorial, in particular to the staff of the
Conservation Sub-Section. The occupant of the
position will ensure that all research undertaken is documented and, where
appropriate, published. The occupant
of the position provides input to and practical support for the research
programs developed by the Conservation
Research Working Party. The position will be filled on a part-time basis
and is is based at the Treloar A Annexe
of the Memorial in Mitchell.

NOTE - Mandatory qualifications, preferably completion of a tertiary
qualification in the field of
chemistry, a relevant science or conservation, apply.

CONSERVATION OFFICER - PAINTINGS

National Collection Branch, Collection Services Section,
Part Time,fixed term contract until 30 June 2000

This position is located at the Australian War Memorial's annex at Mitchell
 in the Australian Capital Territory. The
occupant will work in a small team performing conservation work on items
that are part of the Memorial's National
Collection. Most of the work will be in the painted surfaces laboratory.
The occupant will also assist in surveys,
documentation and movement, exhibition or storage of objects.

CONSERVATION OFFICER - PHOTOGRAPHIC

The occupant of this position will develop, implement and document the
Memorial


’s cleaning, stabilisation and monitoring programs for photographic materials including duplicate and original acetate and other negatives, and photographic prints of all types. The work will include providing advice and assistance with the handling, storage and display of National Collection photographic materials, devising appropriate treatments for objects, and the chemical analysis of photographic materials to the latest international standards (ISO). NOTE: Mandatory qualifications, completion of a tertiary qualification, preferably in the field(s) of Conservation or Chemistry, apply to this position.
