Rebecca-
I'm not an expert on this by any means, but as long as your resume reflects
that your internships were while you were in school, I'm not sure what the
problem is. If your concerned that a potential employer might miss this
important piece of information, then I would make a point of it in a cover
letter. Also, It's not necessary to put "INTERNSHIPS" on your resume, I
always use "EXPERIENCE." Also, you may want to highlight the projects you
completed for the various museum that you interned with rather than the
internship itself and this is a legitimate way of putting a lot a short term
experience on your resume. Also, if you got paid for your internships, you
were "working" in the strictest sense of that word.

If you would like to see how I use my internships in my resume feel free to
contact me off the list, I would be happy to share it.
