Vanya,

It is almost impossible to respond without seeing the object or at
least some photos.

I have many years experience in the conservation of objects,
especially historic metals.

Why don't you send me some good digital images of this track artifact
and they I will offer some general advice on the list in regards as to
how you should approach this.
