Please excuse cross-postings.

In brief: TEENMUSE, a new list discussing how to include people from 13-21
in museums. E-mail [log in to unmask] with information about yourself
and your interest in the issue if you want to be part of this workgroup.

Details for those who are seriously interested:

TEENMUSE grew out of several conversations on MUSEUM-ED about high school
students working in museums. As museum studies and the "museum professional"
continue to evolve as specific career paths, and because the teenagers of
today are the museum audiences and employees of tomorrow, it is increasingly
important that young people be involved in various capacities in museum
volunteer, membership, educational outreach, and internship programs. How
are the needs of this group (13-21)--educationally, socially,
vocationally--best served, as audience and as museum employee? How can they
serve the needs of the museum? While anyone concerned with museums
(students, membership/development, educators, professors, and others) is
welcome, all participants on this list are required to contribute to the
dialogue. Possible future plans for this conversation include a session at
AAM or other relevant conferences.

Because we are an active, focused group trying to work through issues,
before I add you to the list, I require you to send me
([log in to unmask]) a brief statement which I will forward to the
list. It simply needs to say who you are, why you are concerned with this
project, and what your interests, issues, ideas, or concerns might be. This
policy is not meant to be onerous: it's simply to make new members feel
welcome and prevent lurking, spamming, and off-topic posts--none of which
will be tolerated.
