Dear Jerrie,
This response comes from a 12 year veteran of a Curator/Adminstrator
only small local history museum.  Now we have a Director who may
overturn my curatorial decisions but is responsible for those
decisions and who must follow Collections Management Policy which the
Board determines.

I'd say you have a governance issue here. Although you are in a
transitory adminstrative situation, what is the Board Pres. doing
getting involved in collections management practice?  Where too is
your Collections Committee?  They should be backing your "best
practices" decisions.  (Which are designated to be followed by all
staff and volunteers in your Collections Management Policy, right?)
OK so that's the administrative scenario. I know it doesn't always
work that way in the real world.

I will be interested in the responses you get to your dilemma.
